The bull-block is a machine that draws a material and rolls it up into a crown of wire. It consists :
- reel on which the wire intended for drawing is placed,
- a die, upstream of the bull-block, which imposes deformation on the wire by reducing its section.

During the final shaping stages, a rectangular section is given to the wire using a turk-head. This rectangular section serves to maximize the filling factor of the coil. It is possible to obtain sections ranging from a few mm² to 25 mm².

The production of intense magnetic fields requires the use of specific coils where the wires are subjected to very severe environments.
The magnetic field produced by a coil induces Lorentz forces which can lead to the destruction of the electromagnet if the conductor does not have sufficient mechanical strength. In addition, to obtain the longest possible pulse duration, these conductors must have an electrical resistivity as close as possible to that of pure copper. However, high tensile strength and low electrical resistivity are most often antagonistic. The materials used to produce the conductive wires used for the implementation of the coils therefore constitute one of the major locks.
Our team is specialized in whole process of wire design and fabrication, starting from raw materials and ending with wire drawing and macroscopic characterization.

The tensile tests at room temperature and at 77 K are carried out with an Instron 1195 type tensile machine.
