htmlText_406A3BF7_0FFD_97B4_4197_41C0705F028A.html = In the Busy Bee Room the children are usually from approximately 16 months to 2 years old and we work to a 1 adult to 3 children ratio.
The Honey Bee and Busy Bee Rooms work very closely together and the activities are tailored to the individual children’s ages and stages of development, taking into account the child’s individual interests and preferences.
We do have a weekly ‘Sing and Sign’ session which all the children love to participate in.
Each child has an individual ‘Learning Journal’ which parents are encouraged to contribute to. Again, we work towards the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and the children have access to the 7 areas of learning both inside and outside.
In the Ladybird Room the children’s ages range from our older 3-year olds to 4 year old children, the staffing ratio is a 1 adult to 8 children ratio.
The children are encouraged to work together choosing from a variety of resources and take turns and share with their friends.
They work in small groups and participate in small group adult-led and child-initiated activities.
The daily routine is structured to get the children ready for school. The children are encouraged to explore and experiment using a variety of materials and resources we have on offer.
The staff encourage the children to work things out for themselves providing support when needed.
We believe that children learn through play and the staff do everything they can to get to know their key children individually and support them with their individual learning.
Just across our car park we are very lucky to have ‘Our Secret Garden Area’ which the older children are able to access.
The nursery staff have completed their Level 1 Forest School Training and we are excited to have this special area.
This gives the children the opportunity to experience the changing seasons, to observe and record how things are changing, collect natural resources and make dens with their friends.
They also have an opportunity to grow vegetables and observe the different birds and insects throughout the changing seasons.
The children have really loved being able to access this area and it is lovely to see the joy and wonderment on their faces.
The Butterfly Room is where the children who are 3 years old are based, the staffing ratio in this room is 1 adult to 8 children.
The routine is more structured in this room as we are now starting to prepare the children to go off to big school. There is an emphasis on small group work and sharing resources and working together.
The staff have all had training on phonics and early maths skills which is incorporated into lots of fun activities which are delivered daily to your children.
The children will participate in register and circle times and be encouraged to participate in a variety of different activities to develop their existing skills and knowledge.
We operate a book sharing scheme where the children are encouraged to choose a book to take home and share with their family.
The Caterpillar Room is the room where our 2-year-old children are based. In this room there is a 1 adult to 4 children ratio.
Again, we work towards the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Each child has their own ‘Learning Journal’. When your child starts at the centre we will complete an initial assessment within the first few weeks which we will use as a basis to plan their next steps.
It is important that you and your child get to know your key person and that information is shared daily. We aim to provide an environment where your child is excited and motivated to learn.
We offer opportunities for children to develop their existing skills and learn through play and they do also join in with the ‘Sing and Sign’ session each week.
Your key person will add to your child’s ‘Learning Journal’ throughout their time at the centre and you will be provided with termly reports on the progress your child is making and what you can do at home to support their learning.

The room consists of a separate sleep area, play area and craft area. The children also have access to a garden area which is AstroTurfed which means that they are able to access the outside area during all weathers.
We work towards the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum focusing on the 7 areas of learning. The babies are encouraged to explore their environment and there is an emphasis at this age on sensory activities.

We are very lucky to have a big outside space for the children to explore. There are different areas which supports the 7 areas of learning and the children have the opportunity to run, jump, climb and generally enjoy the outdoor environment.
We have areas that the children can observe and explore, a natural insect habitat, herb area and a planting and growing area.
The children are encouraged to make the most of the outdoors and we have all in one weather outfits that we encourage them to wear as we try to use the outdoor space in all weathers.
We would like to welcome you to the Hobby Horse Children’s Centre.
The centre has been established for 26 years and is run by experienced, qualified nursery staff. We feel that it is important to get to know each child individually finding out their likes and dislikes and building on their interests and then incorporating them into the daily activities we have on offer.
Each child’s learning journey is different and starts with developing a good bond with their key worker. It is important that you feel happy to leave your child with the staff at the centre as this is probably one of the most important choices you will ever make.
We pride ourselves on the close working relationships we have developed with our parents over many years.
Before your child starts at the centre you will be offered settling-in sessions which will enable your child to become familiar with the nursery environment and give you the opportunity to meet your child’s key person and ask any questions you may have.
We do not have the facilities to provide food at the centre, but we do provide water and milk (throughout the day) and a healthy snack in the morning and afternoon. We ask you to provide a lunch box or appropriate food for children in our baby room and nappies, wipes etc and a bag with spare clothes.

We are registered with Ofsted to accept up to 62 children each day ranging from 3 months to 5 years. During the Oxfordshire school holidays we accept children up to the age of 10 years and 11 months.
We have five base rooms and operate a key worker and buddying system within the individual rooms. We take children of the staff and students at the college and then children from the wider community. We are open from 8:00 to 18:00 each day.
