Mad et Len traps the scents of memories into beautifully handcrafted objects and experimental fragrances. The nature that surrounds the brand’s atelier in the southern France Alps serves as the main source of inspiration for its perfume and candle lines as well as for the organic shapes of its furniture pieces, which always feature a certain sophisticated rawness. In the peaceful atmosphere of those rough and barely inhabited landscapes, the minds of Sandra and Alexandre, designers of Mad et Len, are free to wander through their past experiences, recalling their trips all over the word, like the time they spent in Africa, New Caledonia, Fiji Islands and Malaysia, working and living as the locals. Those precious souvenirs of life are the soul of Mad et Len’s approach to perfumery and design. By choosing to use only the finest seasonal ingredients, worked through a small-scale production, Sandra and Alexandre reviewed the traditional apothecary’s craft and achieved the highest standard of quality and pureness while respecting the nature rhythms. The same careful attention is paid to furniture pieces, which are entirely made in cold laminated iron without using any industrial techniques.
“In 1537, in Florence, Cosimo I de' Medici, who had become ruler of the city at the age of only 17, also decided to launch a program of aqueduct and fountain building. The city had previously gotten all its drinking water from wells and reservoirs of rain water, which meant that there was little water or water pressure to run fountains.
Under the Medicis, fountains were not just sources of water, but advertisements of the power and benevolence of the city's rulers. They became central elements not only of city squares, but of the new Italian Renaissance garden.”
“Santa Maria Novella is one of Essenza’s most beloved Italian lines. It includes centuries-old Florentine formulas originally developed by Dominican monks for use in their own pharmacy. On cloistered grounds, monks began making remedies from their herb garden in the 1200s and later created near-to-heaven scents. Santa Maria Novella’s charming old-world perfumery has since replaced the pharmacy while honoring these time-tested and adored formulas. We were inspired during our visit there and are excited to share these intoxicating colognes, body care and home ambience products with you in the 21st century.
Sophisticated, timeless, impeccable, no other line captures the essence of Paris like Diptyque. In 1961, three artistically inclined friends launched the company at the now famous address, 34 Boulevard Saint Germain in the 5th arrondissement. Each time we visit the City of Light we find ourselves in Diptyque’s beautiful old-world shop filled with antiques and polished wood for a purely Parisian experience. The line is inspired by travels, a tradition of excellence, countryside scents and innovative fragrances that spring from the imagination of the designers. The history of Cire Trudon Candles begins back in 1643, when a merchant became a store owner in Paris, selling wax candles and groceries. The merchant, Trudon, eventually created a technique to create the best quality wax, and eventually his son Jacques became part of the Versailles court. Maison Trudon eventually became the Royal wax supplier, recognized for the high quality product, and continued to supply wax to Napoleon. Over the centuries, Maison Trudon has made candles for royalty, leaders, and, more recently, for design leaders such as Dior, Hermes, Guerlain, and others. Today, Cire Trudon is considered the oldest manufacturer of candles in French. All Cire Trudon are still made with the same perfected wax technique and are still recognized by those in the know as the highest quality candles. This proprietary wax has been perfected over many centuries. The wax is made from a wax paste which is made from vegetal matters, which is all-natural and allows for the best fragrances to be perfectly embedded in the wax. The unique wax blend also ensures that the candle burns cleanly and for a long time. Thanks to the special wax, Cire Trudon candles enjoy exceptional scent diffusion and cleaner burning. The paraffin-free wax made with copra, rice, pal, and soy oils ensure that the candle is less harmful than other candles laced with synthetic products and toxins. The natural waxes also ensure that the candles are more sustainable than synthetic candles. The pure cotton wicks and the fact that Cire Trudon candles contain no pesticides, heavy metals, or substances prohibited by OSPAR ensure that the candles are
