“It got to the point where I couldn’t feed my kids. I was failing. I told my husband we had to go to a shelter because we could not live like this any longer. We had to get past the stigma of homeless shelters.

So we came to Las Vegas Rescue Mission,” she said. “When they said they had a place for us, it was like the stress just lifted. If I hadn’t been able to come here, I probably would have lost my kids,” she says.

Kristen’s family is back on their feet and putting their lives back together. We need your help to get more people back on their feet! When you make a donation to the capital campaign, you are doing more than helping one family – you’re helping hundreds of families that will come through our doors in the coming years.

WHO WE ARE

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission strives to be the model for providing hope and change for the homeless. Since 1970, the Mission has been providing hope and change to the homeless, addicted, mentally ill, and others in need. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is the only agency left in town that can treat absolutely everyone no matter their means. We make sure that no individual or family who is in legitimate need has to go without. In 2019, we served over 400,000 meals, provided 64,500 nights of shelter, and gave clothing and basic needs items to over 4,900 needy men, women, and their children. Beyond food, clothing, and shelter, the Mission operates a 6-month residential addiction and recovery program where men and women learn skills empowering them to become sober.

Our Campaign Vision

Our plan is to increase our capacity by adding another 118 beds. Upon completion, there will be 412 beds available to house and heal the homeless and those in need of addiction services. This new space will give the Rescue Mission a much-needed makeover. The buildings are slowly deteriorating. We lack room to expand our programming. With the new, modern facility, we will be able to do so much more to help homeless individuals and families regain their dignity and the hope they need to build better lives.

OUR MISSION

After 50 years of operating, the Rescue Mission needs a serious makeover. With our buildings slowly deteriorating, our lack of room to expand is becoming a major issue. With the new state-of-the-art facility, we will finally be able to make the impact we've been envisioning. Together we can help individuals and families regain their dignity and spark the hope they need to build better lives.

PROJECT INFORMATION

It's Not Just a capital campaign

This campaign will transform the way services are provided to homeless individuals and families in our community. We want to end homelessness one person or family at a time. In order to do this, we are adjusting the way we address homelessness. With your support, we will transform our current facilities into a modern campus that will serve the homeless and empower them to rebuild their lives. We will be able to expand our programs and offer new ones that will help get people off the street and closer to self-sufficiency.

Kristen and her husband have a big family, but they’ve always been able to make ends meet. Then the unthinkable happened and everything changed. While moving into a new place, Kristen’s 4-year-old son fell into a pool. “He suffered what they called a non-fatal drowning. He was on life support for a week and in a coma for two and a half weeks,” Kristen says. “He survived, but he has no fine motor skills. He can’t walk or talk. He can’t take food by the mouth. He’ll need support the rest of his life.”

After the accident, Kristen and her husband spent so much time with their son that they lost their jobs. “They said I wasn’t stable enough to work,” she remembers. It didn’t take long before the family lost everything. They ended up bouncing from friend to friend, eventually sleeping in cars and even breaking into vacant apartments just for safe shelter.
