At the Brampton Museum we have a vibrant programme of curriculum linked workshops for local schools and education groups. We have a large, bright, education space, with toilets and room for lunch.
Our workshops also use the different amazing galleries around the museum and sometimes down into our cellar. Come to us for: drama, hands on learning, making activities, local history, historical enquiry, real artefacts. Find out more and book.

Do you remember the Municipal Hall on the Ironmarket? Edward Turner, a local chemist donated the clock. He started the clock at midday on 19 August 1890 at the opening ceremony. The Municipal Hall was a venue for dances, plays, civic occasions and wedding receptions.
The Municipal Hall was demolished in 1966. The Rotary Club and Smith of Derby made a new face and structure for the clock mechanism so it could continue to work. We rely on generous donations from local people and businesses to keep our clock ticking.

Step back in time to the Newcastle of yester year. Our historic street scene includes recreations of beloved local shops like Mellard’s Ironmongers and Tildesley’s watch repairers. Most of the items you see have been donated by local people and businesses. With this virtual tour you can get an exclusive peek inside these shops- they are not normally open to the public

The Mock Mayor of Newcastle-Under-Lyme by Robert William Buss R.A. painted in 1844.
It illustrates the mockery which took place on the market cross when the townsfolk took it upon themselves to elect a Mayor of their own choosing and not one elected by the Council.
Many of the characters portrayed in this splendid study were taken from well-known contemporary local characters.
